Fit Tips

"THINGS or PEOPLE" may make it harder for us to reach our goals, but WE are the only ones responsible for decisions we make.

So I just finished 6 weeks of Game On, a program my friend, Karen Geninatti created. It was a month of clean eating (no dairy or grains, seeds or nuts... nothing processed, no alcohol) and hour-daily exercise. My goal was to get as lean as possible as I train for the marathon in April. I didn't think I had more than a few pounds to lose. I lost 10. I have NEVER had this much energy. So many positives came from this... weird things like I'm more organized with everything. My mood has been steady and positive. My periods have gone from being nightmares (sick for a few days, achy for a week, bitchy for 2 weeks... yeah... the extreme PMS) to a couple of days I'm a little weepy. My whole family has benefited from me doing this... I guess what they say is true... happy wife/happy life?? Anyway, this group hasn't been active in months, really. I thought I'd share this information with you in case anyone needs a jump start. One woman in our group participated from Texas. Another from Chicago. This doesn't require any in-person meeting. Just basically FB, text, and MyFitnessPal contact with a group and Karen. It's $75 for the month of participation. Her groups fill up fast because she only takes 10 people a month, I think... or right around there.

I had my annual visit with doctor in Springfield today. My blood pressure is wonderful, rest of my vitals are wonderful. My bone density test results were better than last year. I know it is because of making changes in my diet and exercise. Thanks for all that you do to make us better:)

I know that I will probably have a bad day within the month of March, but as of Day 5, I feel great! It’s even my bad time of the month and I’m not shoving food in my mouth or weighing 4-5 lbs. more like normal. Instead, I feel good and I “lost” 5.3 lbs. in 3 days. I was very skeptical at the start, but I am finding out that it’s not really that hard. I guess I have the mindset and the goal of the wedding that’s pushing me. I have never ever been on a diet that I didn’t cheat on – this is the first. I can’t even eat 5 meals a day. I feel like all I’m doing is eating and have not been hungry one time. I was never really a fruit or veggie eater either….now I am absolutely loving my fruits and veggies and trying things that I would have never tried before. So glad I joined your Game On – you are a great motivator!

"Today was a cool day. My husband and I BOTH hit the 25# wt loss mark ( On the same day!) My Mother-in-law has lost 17 lbs. We have done this challenge together and it has been life changing. We have definitely set a new way of life and a new way of living. I am still working to get our kids totally transitioned into clean food, but we have made great progress!

Every diet I ever tried I would feel like I was always hungry I would even wake up in the middle of the night starving then be really tired the following afternoon still I rarely lost more than 3 or 4 pounds. Now , with GAME ON I'm not hungry, not tired and the weight is dropping off. I've still got much to learn but I sure have to thank Karen for the direction. Thanks Karen!!!

Well, I am in my third week of trying out this food combination program. I have not been really strict about the protien carb combo at every meal but I have been strict in portion sizes.
I figured the first 5 pounds come off the easiest so I wanted that off before Feb 1 when I plan on really attacking this. I have no trouble with the working out because I have always worked out every dayl. Karen this morning I weighed 175.2. I started at 184. I have not been that light for at least 5 years. My goal weight is 168....I just can't believe how this is working...I already don't eat fast foods and I have always exercised and struggled to drop weight. With this program the weight is just dropping off. A nice eye opener...

Hi, I was in your group today for the stair climb practice (I'm the one that signed up for the ultimate climb for my first climb). Anyways, I just wanted to drop you a quick note of thanks. I really appreciated all the tips you gave and your encouragement was really helpful. I can't thank you enough for mentioning not to "run" the stairs because that was my plan. I had no idea how hard that was going to be and I know what I need to work on before Feb 16th. Thanks again! Happy Climbing!!

Karen, I wanted to let you know that one of your messages really inspired me to get back on a healthy eating plan. You said, "A goal without a plan is just a wish." That really stuck with me. As many people do, I was always planning to lose weight and eat more healthy foods, but just couldn't seem to get on track. When I read that simple message I realized why and took the action needed to set a plan. I have now lost 20 pounds (which was my goal to do before the June 24 wedding) and am feeling much better physically and about myself. Thank you for the inspiration!!!

Karen, Thank you so much for my shirt for my birthday! I can't tell you how much you have changed my way of life in such a great way!! I sincerely appreciate the personal attention to every aspect of my training as well as your encouragement! I can honestly tell you that if I had attempted to get in shape any other way it would not have worked and I would still be the flabby 30 something that I was. Again, thank you so much for being you, you are greatly appreciated by me and several others I KNOW!!!!!

Hi Karen, I love receiving your e-mails, and at times I almost feel like you're watching me. Your words of encouragement always seem to come at the right times.

I WILL most definately be at the reunion. I can't think of anything that could keep me from it. I am looking so forward to seeing everyone again and to getting in some great workouts.

If I haven't told you already, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for everything that you did for us at Fit Camp. You have changed my life in so many ways that I could never tell you. I have become a better person for myself, my husband and my kids.

I always thought that I was doing the right thing by putting everyone else first, when in reality it was probably the worst thing that I could have done. I don't think I have ever put myself first, or thought that time for myself was really a priority. I will never fall into that rut again.

Can't wait to see you in a couple of weeks.

Hey karen, Just wanted to update you.....I took third place in the Tulsa Natural this past weekend in the 45 and over catagory. There were 16 entrants and, although I was shooting for first place, I'm accepting the fact that 2 guys were more cut and ripped than I was/am. I also entered the Springfield (Missouri) All Natural on Aug. 4th. Since I'm already at competition bodyfat and weight, I figure, "why not?" After that, I'm hanging up the posing trunks until next year. I could not believe the feelings I had the moment before I stepped on stage for the first time. Fear? Terror? Excitment? All of the above!!!!! I, literally, had one foot on stage, and one still behind the curtain and hesitated for a moment about running away when I thought to myself, "Dude...they've already seen you!" I was told, regarding competition, that I'd either love it or hate it....I LOVE it!!!!

Karen, I can't thank you enough for your advice and support. Your weekly blurbs are motivating and inspirational. Also, I use you as a role model. As a 50 year old guy, I keep thinking that if a woman my age (you), who's had children can train and compete, so can I. Again, thank you for all you inspiration and advice....it made a difference. especially your diet tips.
With deep appreciation, Steven Michael Majike

Karen, After reading your letter...I was sitting her thinking...That YOU are such a part of my life and my everyday life...I'm thinking....man, she has the power! No...just kiddin, but really...I think about everything that goes into my mouth, even if it is bad...but the bad stuff is really the better choices of the bad stuff (did that sound good or what) My eating habits have changed so much in the last year and it has changed my families eating habits...they feed off of what I tell them, of what I have learned from you. And that's just my eating habit's...my motivation to work out and keep going comes from YOU! Every Monday is like a new day...to get us motivated for the rest of the week. And it works! Two years ago...I never thought I would be this active and I thrive off it! I never thought I would be out there playing tennis or how about BOOT CAMP (that was always a dream) and let a lone...going to the weight center everytime I go into a sports store..to see what new toy or work out gear I want to buy.

Anyway...I am so glad I picked up your card and you became a part of my life...So Thank YOU!

I am so grateful and proud of myself for the year I have had Karen, I am in the best shape of my life!! You have inspired me in ways I can never explain, physically, mentally, and spiritually. You helped me believe I could be the best I can be.!! And I know I am a work in progress, but I am so proud of how far I have come, in the past couple of years. I never thought I could do the things I have done this year!! Not one 5K, but I think 5 this year and a Biathlon!!!! Where did that come from? I am setting my sights and goals higher for 2011. Yesterday, I was at the lowest weight I have been at since I can remember, I know in at least 20 years!!

I love the Weds night group of girls, they give to me more than they know, especially those young ones, i-a constant source of encouragement and inspiration!

I am looking forward to next year to see what kind of crazy things you can think of!!! Thank you for what you give to all of us!

Hi Karen! I just wanted to say thanks for getting us prepared so well for the Climb! I quite honestly, have maybe never felt so proud of myself. I was so excited that I did it that many times and I KNOW I couldn’t have done it without all your help getting us there! You are an awesome trainer and I feel so lucky to have you! I just told mom last night after I left your house, I said “ I wish I could go there every day, because every time I’m there, it makes me want to do good” SO thanks for everything! We Rocked the Hilton! See you next week!

Karen--Just wanted to mention how vibrant, energized, and focused I have felt all week. I haven't felt this alive in years! It feels like I'm getting my life back. :)
Thank You. Annette

You are such an inspiration to me and I totally admire you!! I am so thankful we did that yesterday, I almost went out the 8th floor door and ran to my car!!! Lol and I am not a quitter but i just felt like I could not breathe, then I just talked my way though it in my head until I got to the top and the rest were much easier!! You are the best!!! See you Thursday !!!
Love Kim

Thank YOU, Karen! I am still feeling the adrenaline rush!!! Can't wait for 2013! I am so happy to have beaten last year's time at the HILTON CLIMB by over a minute. I feel I was definitely better prepared this year. Thank you again for all the training tips, support and encouragement. And the very cool t-shirt!!!
Gina :-)

I was Just thinking that 90 days ago I would have never been able to do anything like I just did today. I absolutely feel like a different person thanks to a simple gift certificate ,and you making me realize that I can do anything I set my mind to.

I know this is late but congrats on the 7 year anniversary. You are such an amazing lady and mentor. You have been so inspirational to me and have changed so many peoples lives. It's funny because anytime I mention your name to someone a smile always comes out on their face. You have that power to make people feel happy, confident, successful,, and strong. Congrats and keep up your amazing work.

Have a healthy day,
Alexandria Stone

Karen ... you are the best. You have Mike bragging on you!!!! Out of the blue the other day, he SAYS, boy I really feel Karen today.. You know I've known some personal trainers but she really has to be the best. You are right with everything you always say. I was really unsure whether he would come back with me Karen....lol.

Hi Karen. I'm heading off to the gym, so of course I'm thinking of you! I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I did a pretty good job of eating in moderation, thanks to your great post.

I wanted to share this with you. Ever since I started racing bikes (about 18 years ago), I learned that even among the some of the top pros (of which there are many here), there is a culture of eating very bad and drinking beer "because they can". Well, huge boxes of donuts (!) always found their way to bike shops and team meetings. I did crave them, but limited myself to having one or two every 5-6 months. Well, things have definitely changed for me since meeting YOU, Karen! I tried eating one the other day and, to my surprise, the taste doesn't even appeal to me anymore!! Plus, I think, "Why should I sacrifice all this hard work I'm doing!".

So, basically, Karen, you are always here with me mentally, keeping me much healthier and fitter!! You are such an awesome human being, and I'm so happy you're my friend.

I am 42 years old and was at the biggest weight of my life. I read about Karen Geninatti in Muscle and Fitness. I started on her Communication Motivation program on March 9, 2005 at a weight of 170. On June 9 I was down to 139 lbs. The inches are melting away. She keeps in touch with me daily by e-mail, phone or text messaging, as I live in Florida and she is in Illinois. Seh is there to support you in every aspect of your training and nutrition. Her support has helped me exceed my goals and strive to meet others head on. I have never felt healthier!

Karen, I just wanted to thank you for working out with my daughter. She is really excited and enjoying her workouts. She has really low self esteem and I can see it improving, which means a lot to me. You are a great Motivator! She talks about her workouts all the time.

I first saw Karen in Ironman Magazine. She said, "It's never too late to take control of your body." Karen is an inspiration to me. I love the one-on-one with her in Geninatti Gym. She is a ray of sunshine. I've learned a lot from her...I get a physical and mental rush from working out with her. I was a size 16 jeans when I started working out with her and I've dropped 2 pant sizes! I feel great!

Karen has profoundly changed my life. Knowing her has inspired me to change my thinking about Life, Exercise and Nutrition. Seeing how hard she works makes me keep going even when I feel like giving up. She NEVER gives up on me! She is always there with encouragement, mentoring, lectures and new ways of thinking. My only regret is that I did not meet her sooner.
Angela Meyer- Geninatti Gym client, Hillsboro, IL.

Karen is such a great mentor. She taught me how to lift weights properly. When you think you just cant' do any more, Karen finds a way to get more out of you. I don't think I would have been able to compete at Normal without Karen's motivation and training.
